Deuce®: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I care for my vinyl tonneau cover?
The vinyl fabric on your tonneau cover can be cleaned with mild soap and water, and may be hand washed or safely cleaned in the car wash of your choice. Thoroughly rinse cover to remove any soap residue. Vinyl cover can be treated with any vinyl protectants made for tonneau covers. Never clean cover with petroleum or citrus-based products, and avoid silicone based protectants.

How do I adjust the tension on my tonneau cover?
The Deuce cover has automatic tension control. The exclusive hinge design has a built-in automatic tension control device that separates and lifts the fabric to avoid pinch and wear. Refer to the TruXedo® Deuce Owner’s Manual for more specific information.

Will the TruXedo® Deuce work with my other truck accessories?
This cover will work with most truck accessories such as bed liners, rail caps and side rails. It may not work with all bed extenders. The side rails extend 3” into the bed on each side. In order to use the bed extender, it must not come within 3” of the side of the bed when rotated, or it must be able to detach from the truck, be manually rotated and re-attached. Please call 1-877-878-9336 or email sales@truxedo.com if you have questions about a specific application or accessory.

Can I lock the TruXedo® Deuce?
It secures automatically when latched at the rear, and provides added security when used with a locking tailgate. It can not be opened until the tailgate is unlocked and opened. The hinged portion also has a locking mechanism. When the locking mechanism is used and the latch at the front of the bed is secured, the latch can only be unlocked by rolling the cover all the way open and releasing the locking mechanism.

Will the TruXedo® Deuce work in the winter as well as in the summer?
The tonneau cover fabric will not shrink in cold temperatures, to –40 degrees F. Patent pending automatic tension control system keeps the cover tight whether it is 40 degrees below or 120 degrees above. Sliding Velcro® brand hook on the side rail works with automatic tension control to keep the cover tight – even when it’s closed!

Will the TruXedo® Deuce work with a 5th wheel?
Yes! Simply roll the cover all the way open and secure with security straps at the front of the bed. This allows you full access to your 5th wheel.

Can I still open my tailgate with the TruXedo® Deuce on my truck?
Yes – it does not restrict the tailgate. The rear header functions independently of the tailgate so there is nothing to remove when opening the tailgate.

I have a bed extender. Will the Deuce work with it?
The side rails extend 3” into the bed on each side. In order to use the bed extender, it must not come within 3” of the side of the bed when rotated, or it must be able to detach from the truck, be manually rotated and re-attached.

I have an older truck and I don’t see the year in the application guide. Can I still get a one for my truck?
No. The TruXedo® Deuce can not be custom made for applications that are not listed.

I have a truck with a utility track system in the bed. Can I still use a Deuce?
Not at this time.

I live in a region that is very hot. Will the fabric fade in the sun?
The fabric used is of very high quality and has been tested in extreme conditions. It is UV-protected and will not fade in the sun.

I live in a region that gets a lot of heavy snow. Can it hold the snow without bending or stretching?
The fabric used is very high quality and has been tested in extreme conditions. It can hold up to 350 pounds without stretching the fabric.

How long will it take to install it myself?
Typically, it can be installed in 40 minutes. It requires a 9/16” wrench to tighten the 6 clamps that attach the side rails to the inside of the truck bed. You will also need a ½” box end wrench and ½” socket.

Where can I order replacement parts for my TruXedo® Deuce?
Only replacement part orders can go directly through TruXedo® by calling 1-877-878-9336.

Will it work with my in-box toolbox or other in-box cargo management systems?
With the wide variety of toolboxes and cargo management systems available, this will vary by application. Here are some guidelines to follow to help you – The top of the toolbox or cargo management system must be ½” below the top of the pickup bed. The toolbox length must also be a minimum of 7” shorter than the width of the inside front of the pickup bed. Subtracting 7” allows the toolbox to be opened when the cover is rolled completely open. When the cover is flipped open, the length of the opening from the front of the bed to the hinge is 26”. The toolbox should be spaced 3-4” away from the front of the pickup bed so it does not interfere with the latch.

Why is there a hole punched on the rear of the passenger side rail but no latch present?
The reason the rails are all punched the same way is to keep them uniform, for manufacturing efficiency and to reduce tooling costs.
