Squeezing More Power from a V-Twin

Squeezing More Power from a V-Twin

It’s a Honda but not like any Honda you’ve
ever seen. This is what happens when Cobra
get their hands on a bike

We here at 4WheelOnline think that two wheels are just as good as four so we got a real kick when we heard that a cyclist had pedaled his two-wheeled bicycle to an incredible 83 miles an hour!

The new world record of 83.13mph (133.78kmh) was set in Nevada by Sebastiaan Bowier and we salute you sir! But it got us thinking that if he can get his bicycle going that fast, then what’s the best way to get a bit more speed from a motorcycle?

Top of the list for squeezing a bit more power from a V-Twin motor was with a performance exhaust system, and who better to go to for that than the leaders in V-Twin performance exhausts, Cobra.

Cobra: The V-Twin Performance Experts

Cobra exhausts are made here in the USA

For three decades Cobra have been turning sheet and tube steel into the finest exhaust systems for Harley and metric cruiser V-Twin engines. Combining state-of-the-art technology with skilled hands-on craftsmanship Cobra is renowned for the quality of its work and the outstanding performance of its products.

There’s also another reason we admire Cobra so much: virtually everything that bears the Cobra name is designed and built right here in the USA.

Full Exhaust Systems and Slip-Ons

Cobra has spent years of R&D finely tuning its exhaust systems to harmonize with a bike’s engine, maximize the airflow through it and extract more power from it. The company offers two types of exhausts; full systems and slip-on mufflers.

The full exhaust is a soup-to-nuts system that includes the whole exhaust from the engine block to the tip of the tail pipe, in contrast the slip-on only replaces the OEM muffler section of the exhaust. The benefits of the full exhaust are an increase in medium and top-end power when you have the throttle wide open and they also give a bike a completely custom look for the entire length of the exhaust system. The slip-on benefits are low-end power increases (standing starts, stop-and-go city riding) and a custom appearance at the tail end. Slip-ons are also cheaper than full exhausts which is helpful if you’re on a tighter budget.

Differences aside, both systems provide a bike with a solid sound far more thrilling than stock OEM pipes ever generate. Riding through tunnels becomes so much more worthwhile…

Personally we liked the Cobra slip-ons for the added ‘green light getaway’ performance they offer, but some of the full exhausts looked so sweet it was hard to pick a favorite. Either way, there’s never been a better looking way of squeezing more power from a V-Twin.
