The race ended up being an extremely close, duelling matchup. But in the end, Vaughn managed to come out on top with his Nitto NT05 Tires, the very same tires that helped him snag the top spot at last year’s Formula Drift series.

Formula Drift Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Previously held in Palm Beach, this was the first time the Formula Drift series was held at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. The move to Miami was to ensure the room needed for the ever-growing fan base.

Jim Liaw, President of Formula Drift, was impressed with the move to Miami; “Homestead-Miami Speedway provided a great new venue for our Championship. The increasingly bigger fan base was treated to some impressive driving all weekend with the first event Pro 2 Series competition and Round 3 of the Pro Championship.”

This move to Miami did not seem to affect Vaughn’s Monster Energy Nitto Tire Ford Mustang RTR as he veered to top position easily. Coming to Miami, Vaughn was in second place in the qualifying round giving him the third top 5 qualifying start this year. The win in Miami gave him enough points to move to the second position, 10 points behind the current series leader Chris Forsberg.

Vaughn was excited to move to Miami and said, “It feels really amazing to be here and come to a brand new track and work with my team to get my Monster Energy Nitto Tire Ford Mustang RTR on rails.”

He also added that it was it was great competing with all the best drivers in the world in all these race tracks.

Second Consecutive Victory for Vaughn

The win in Miami gives Vaughn and the RTR Drift team their second consecutive victory in the 2014 Formula Drift series. This makes Vaughn the only Formula Drift series driver to have two consecutive wins in the event since he himself did do so in 2012. Vaughan said, “Back to back wins is just amazing. We’re working hard and it just feels good that it’s paying off and I’m just pumped.”

The Win by Vaughn makes Nitto Tires second best Tire manufacturer and Ford the leading OEM manufacturer in the Formula Drift series. These impressive results achieved by Vaughn give his major sponsors, Ford and Nitto tires, good credibility in the racing world.

The series resumes for round 4 at the Wall Speedway in New Jersey on June 20-21.
