This past weekend, the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season kicked off with the historic Rolex 24, also known as 24 hours of Daytona. The weekend event exploded with excitement and had onlookers gasping in anticipation. The race displayed some serious racing talent (with Action Express Racing winning the big prize) and a brutal collision that left media outlets nervously buzzing and a couple of drivers seriously hurt. Overall, it was a wild event that lived up to its decades old reputation of excellence.

Once Again, Rolex 24 Brings Out the Best

Annually held during the final weekend of January, excellence has become second nature at the Rolex 24. This is because it’s an event that puts the vehicles to the test, leading to the biggest names in racing and the automotive industry lining up to prove themselves.

Legendary driver Michael Waltrip says, “I love the enthusiasm of everyone here. This is an event every race fan needs to experience. If you love cars this is the place to be.” Due to the long, endurance-needed style, the race has naturally become a place that exposes weaker products and highlights auto perfection.

Motegi Racing Wheels

To nobody’s surprise, one of the biggest fixtures at this year’s race was Motegi Racing. For years, Motegi has been using the racing scene to show the world the strength, durability, and style of their Motegi Wheels. They’ve won races at the World Endurance Championship, the European Le Mans Series, and the Grand-Am GT.

Motegi Racing technical director, Luigi Lucaor, says, “A racing wheel is always a compromise between weight and stiffness. Our philosophy is to listen to what our racing partners want, and work with them to develop products that exceed their expectations.”

During this year’s Rolex 24, Motegi Racing once again shined and was featured on a number of competitive teams including: longtime technical partner: AF Corse, the factory SRT Viper teams, and the Mazda SkyActic-D just to name a few. Motegi Wheels was even featured on one of the most talked about cars of the weekend, the Level 5 Ferrari F458 Italia car.

Before this race, a Ferrari vehicle hadn’t appeared at Daytona since it won the prestigious race in 1998. Astoundingly, throughout the history of the “24” race, Ferrari has won an incredible 15 class victories, as well as 5 overall victories! This year they didn’t disappoint, either; the Ferrari car once again won the GT Daytona Class.

After the victory, Ferrari driver Rob Kauffman thanked Motegi Wheels for making this return and victory possible. He said, “We couldn’t have put together a weekend like this without the help of Ferrari, Michelotto, and Motegi Wheels.”

After another long and victorious weekend, Motegi Wheels will be headed back on the road to showcase their products. In order to follow Motegi Racing, stay in touch with all of the events in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship circuit and look for Motegi to be a presence at the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
