How to Install A BAK Roll-X Tonneau Cover

The BAK Roll-X tonneau is a unique hard folding cover that has multiple latching systems which automatically lock the bed cover when it rolls down. This is a very tough cover that has an FRB impregnated vinyl surface that makes it resistant to impact and scratches. This cover can withstand severe heat and cold levels. But before you protect your cargo with the BAK Roll-X tonneau cover, you will first need to install it. This article looks at the steps to follow when installing this cover.

Install the Weather Strip

Before you begin the installation process, you will need to install the weather strip that comes with the package. All you will have to do is to peel it off and attach it on the truck bed. Stick it on along the front part of the truck box.

Install the Side Rails

When you are happy with the weather strip installation, the next step is to install the side rails. Make sure the slotted tabs of both side rails are facing the front side of the truck. The side rails will go right on top of the truck bed and will overlap the front piece. When mounting these side rails, ensure they are a ¼ an inch from the front panel. Use the C-clamps provided to hold the side rails on the front, middle and the back. As you are doing this, try as much as possible to push the channel all the way down.

After mounting the clamps, check that the tailgate fits before installing the BAK Roll-X tonneau Cover.

Install the Cover

Just like all the other tonneau covers, place it right on the front section of the truck bed. Keep the front right edge of the cover on the lip of the truck box. Slide the bolts that came with the kit right in through the cover and the rails then put the washers on. Roll the cover back in position and place the bolts into the slotted holes on the rails. Install the rubber washer, lock washer then the adjusting nuts. Do not tighten them just yet as we will do so later after confirming that the cover and the rails are aligned.

Check to see if the tailgate closes properly and that you can unroll the cover all the way to the back. To open the cover, all you will have to do is pull the cable and it will unlatch. After making sure everything is working fine, you can tighten the bolts underneath.
