Jerry Paolone and the Magnaflow Catback

Whether you drive a slammed S10 or a lifted F350, a nice an exhaust system is the perfect addition to any modified ride. Typically when you’re looking for an exhaust, you want it to be reasonably quiet for street use and be easy to install. Custom exhausts are often too loud and can also be a pain to weld together. When it comes to a Magnaflow catback exhaust, the installation can usually be completed in less than a few hours, depending on the stubbornness of some of the bolts.

A Magnaflow Catback is an exhaust system that has been manufactured to work with your stock catalytic convertor, exhaust route and hanger locations. This is enough to make them street-legal in most of the 50 states (check your local laws before purchasing any exhaust parts).

“We want you to have the best sound possible. With this in mind, we’ve designed our mufflers to have a free flowing, straight through design with a perforated stainless steel core, mesh wrap and acoustical fiber fill to deliver that smooth, deep tone, says a Magnaflow spokesperson. “Our mufflers are packed tight with the acoustic material to ensure long life and no sound degradation.”

Jerry Paolone - Italian Roots

Magnaflow owner, Jerry Paolone.

The name “Magnaflow” has an American sound to it, just like its mufflers. But, the truth is the company was founded by an Italian immigrant, Jerry Paolone, more than 30 years ago. The result is a company that now distributes products to more than 88 countries through its home base in Orange County but it also holds an office in Rome, Italy.

Magnaflow continues to produce thousands of different exhaust systems every year. The company’s catback exhausts systems are made from premium components and come with a lifetime warranty.

Installing a Magnaflow Catback exhaust is not a difficult task, if you have the right tools. You and a friend should be to complete the job on a Sunday afternoon and still have enough time to grab a pizza. Here is a checklist for some of the tools you will want to own (or borrow) before tackling a catback exhaust installation:

  1. Jack/Jack Stand or Engine lift – You need a safe way to get underneath your car or truck (if it doesn’t already have a lift kit.)
  2. Penetrating Oil – PB Blaster and Liquid Wrench work great on rusty bolts.
  3. Socketing Wrench with Extensions – Make sure you have the proper sockets before getting dirty.
  4. Breaker Bar – Old bolts from on catalytic convertors may be difficult to loosen. These can be handy.
  5. Shop Towels – No matter how clean you keep your truck, it’s going to be dirty underneath it.
  6. Beer – Every job well done deserves a reward.

So the next time you feel like you would rather hear the rumble of your exhaust rather than boring talk radio, or if you’re tired of your stock exhaust robbing horsepower, consider installing a Magnaflow Catback exhaust system. The neighbors might not love you for it, but it will be a lot more fun driving to work. 4WheelOnline offers a full lime of Magnaflow Products
