Lotus C-01 V-Twin by Designer Daniel Simon
We all love to marvel and drool over beautiful V-twin bikes. They are the cream of the crop, the best breed of the wild and fantastical motorcycle species. But as we all know, a species always has a king, and that role always has to be filled.
Well, earlier this year, Lotus made their claim for the throne with their unbelievably epic creation: the Lotus C-01 Superbike. It is arguably the greatest bike in the century old history of 2-wheeled iron horses.
Damon Lavrinc of
Wired agrees
, saying, “The Lotus C-01 is one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever created. Just look at it. Marvel at the majesty of this machine. It’s stunning. It’s also a fanciful, farcical take on what a 200-horsepower superbike should be in the 21st century.”
What Lies Above and Beneath
On the surface, it’s hard to deny the brilliance of the Lotus design. It’s a carbon fiber design that seems to flow naturally, from one part to another, culminating in perfect harmony. It’s a design that any real bike lover can appreciate.
Designer Daniel Simon— who was also the man behind the Lightcycles in Tron— says, “Conventional bike designs avoid most styling trouble with very modular thinking, meaning each part like a gas tank, seat, tail, and fairing have their own lives, even if they come together in great harmony. With the C-01, we tried to blend many of those elements together, creating continuous automotive shapes and lines that run all the way from the headlight to the tail.”
Okay, so we understand that the body is drop-dead gorgeous, but that means nothing if the bike didn’t run like a beast, too. Fortunately, this machine is as loaded as loaded gets. Featuring a 2 cylinder, 4 stroke 75 degree v-twin Rotax motor (similar to those seen in the KTM RC8R superbike), the Lotus C-01 manages to fire out a whopping 200 horsepower. That’s enough power to put this bike in the very top-tier of the racing world.
Gunther Holzer, the CEO of Holzer Group, said of the
bike
, “I was one of the first people to ride it and I have to say I was very impressed. Together, we have found that delicate balance between raw, aggressive power and breath-taking handling. The team has created something very special, it looks incredible, it sounds fantastic, but above all, the ride is sensational. I’m very happy.”
Unfortunately for all of you drooling school girls out there, this bike is pretty hard to get a hold of. In fact, there are only 100 in existence, and they would cost you $130,000. Truthfully, though, none of that is really that important. After all, the Lotus C-01 is about more than me or you; it’s about the beauty of the
V-twin
.
