Installing the Extang EnCore Tonneau Cover
The Extang EnCore tonneau cover is unique in its own way. It stands out as the first tonneau cover with an advanced sealing system for ultimate protection against bad weather with access to the front-panel (Cab). This cover also has a twist lock for front panels and a heavy-duty rotary lock for the rear panel. Below we will discuss the steps to follow to perfectly install this cover.
What Is In The Box?
The box that comes with the Extang EnCore tonneau cover has a few items that will help you with the installation process. These include two drain rails, the cover, drain tubes, 6 clamps, the instructions manual and foam seal. This cover is very easy to install, all that is needed is a ½ socket, and a ¾-inch sheet metal drill bit.
Before installing the
Extang EnCore cover
, you will have to prepare the truck bed to ensure the installation process is smooth. This is especially important if aftermarket accessories have been installed on the truck bed.
Install the Side Rails
Installing the side rails is a crucial step that will determine if the Extang EnCore cover installs properly or not. Place the side rails about an inch from the vehicle’s metal cab wall edge. If the truck happens to have a bedliner, this distance will have to be smaller. Make sure booth side rails are exactly the same distance to ensure the cover sits perfectly.
Before installing the side rails, you need to locate the regions where the clamps will be mounted. The front clamp should be placed underneath the first pin, the second clamp between the 2nd & 3rd pin and the rear clamp should be 1 inch from the side rail’s tail end.
Start attaching the clamps and get a friend to help you push the side rail down and hold it in place. For the EnCore cover, the clamps only need the lower notch and this makes the installation process even easier. After installing the side rails on one side, repeat the installation process for the other side of the truck bed.
Install Drain Tubes
To prevent water from accumulating on the side rail, you will have to install drain tubes to the front of the EnCore side rails. Attach the tube and position it to run out of the truck bed. Most trucks have knockout plugs that will facilitate the drainage of water. Drill a 3/4 inch hole on the knockout plug and insert the drain hose through that hole.
Install the Cover
After ensuring everything else is in place, lay the EnCore cover over the centre of the truck bed. Secure the EnCore tethers located on the lower side of the centre panel. The tether hooks need to be attached to the side rails anytime the cover is on the vehicle. Unfold the front panel over the truck bed and make sure the hooks engage the pins in the drain rail. Press it down to lock it in place. Unfold the rear panel and lock it down in place.
Test the tail panel latches and the front panel latches to ensure they are functioning as expected.
Extang
makes all of it's tonneau covers for easy and accurate installation.
