Installing Mud Flaps on Your Truck

Mud flaps are essential accessories to add on your truck if you are a serious off roader. They are used to protect the truck from roadside debris and mud that may be thrown up towards the truck as the wheels rotate. Depending on the size and the debris, it may end up damaging the truck if not stopped. Different states have different laws and depending on the state you are in, you may be required to have a mud flap installed before the truck can be used on the road.

Now knowing that Mud Flaps are essential accessories that cannot be ignored, it is important to know how to properly install them. Although mud flaps are available in varying shapes and designs, their installation procedures are quite similar.

Steps To Follow During Installation

Before the installation process begins, make sure the vehicle is on a level surface. This ensures the mud flaps are level and that they install easily and perfectly. If the mud flaps are not installed when the truck is on a level surface, you risk having mud flaps that do not look right and may not end up causing more harm than good.

For those who are skilled mechanics, removing the tires prior to installation may provide enough space to work with. Removing the tires is not a must and is only recommended for experienced individuals. Start by attaching the mud flap on the wheel well. There are many different mud flaps available in the market from the rubber mud flaps to metal mud flaps. All these can be installed by first attaching them to the wheel well.

Next, drill a hole on one side of the mud flap and directly through the wheel well. Use a screw to secure it. Do not tighten the screw just yet as you may need to adjust it later. Drill the next hole on the other side and make sure they are on the same level with the first one. Tighten the screws on both sides after you are done.

Important Tip

Go for mud flaps that have chrome anti-sail brackets or stainless steel mud flap weight. These help keep the mud flap intact and prevent it from flying up when on the road. When the mud flaps fly off, the debris will make their way to the truck and cause damages. Most mud flaps from reputable manufacturers have both the anti-sail brackets and the mud flap weight that will ensure your off road experience is not interrupted.
