Kyle Busch of Monster Energy Finishes Second
Kyle Busch and his
Monster energy
team went to Watkins Glen in New York for the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Kyle went to this 2.45-mile road course expecting his first win but in the end he finished second. The race was not very smooth for Busch and his team as they experienced hurdles throughout the weekend but they still stayed strong to finish the race.
Practice Sessions
Before the main race began, two practice sessions were held on Friday August 8. The practice sessions were filled with numerous challenges for Busch who ended up collecting a lot of grass on the front grill. He pulled himself up and in the end was comfortable in his car. In the qualifying round held on Saturday, Busch had his best lap toping 123.729 mph and finishing in just 71.285 seconds. This was good enough to place his team at the third starting spot for the Zippo 200 race that was held later that afternoon.
The Main Race
Busch started the race badly as he was pushed from his third to fourth spot. He remained in this spot for the first few laps. The race got even more challenging for Busch when Marcos Ambrose in his No. 09 Ford banged with him and they both spun off the inner loop. The accident pushed Busch to 15th position and Ambrose to 12th. Busch bounced back immediately and by the time the first caution was waved by lap 11, he was at the 10th spot.
At some point during the race, Busch was pushed to the 22nd position as he took his third pit road visit. This pit road stop was timed excellently as it helped Busch gain some ground when the other teams took their pit road visits much later. By lap 30, Busch had managed to beat some of the teams and moved to third place.
The remaining laps did not see much action until lap 50 when the leading driver, Ambrose, pitted giving Busch the chance to head to position one. Busch pitted at lap 51 and was pushed back to position five by lap 55. Lap 55 also saw the last caution waved but Busch did not visit the pit road.
At lap 63, Busch and Keselowski had another dramatic battle where they
traded paint
but this did not pull Busch down. He managed to stay on course and by lap 65 he was at position 3 with Marcos Ambrose and Joey Logano ahead of him. Busch maneuvered his way around the course and managed to pass Logano at lap 77. He stayed on the second spot until the end of the race.
