Checking In With Kumho Tires

A Little Kumho Tires History

Formerly known as Samyang Tire, the company was founded in 1960 in Yang-dong, Kwangju City, South Korea.

As a new tire company, Samyang begun producing on a relatively small scale, cranking out about 20 tires each day using manual labor.
In 1963, Samyang hit its first national milestone by producing the first compact passenger car tire manufactured in Korea.
By 1973, the company created tires with Uniroyal Tires in the Unites States.
In 1976, Kumho tested its first airline tire and produced one million tires, producing 20 million tires per year by 1980.
Ten years later, production reached 100 million tires per year.
In 1996, Samyang Tires officially became Kumho Tires and about ten years later moved its headquarters to Cucamonga, Cal. in 2005. Today, Kumho is the 9th largest tire manufacturer in the world.
