Installing the BAKFlip HD Tonneau Cover

Installing the BAKFlip HD Tonneau Cover

The BAKFlip HD Tonneau Cover is a new generation hard folding multi-panel tonneau cover. This cover is for those who want to secure their cargo while still having complete access to the entire truck bed. Installing the BAKFlip HD Tonneau Cover is an easy process that takes less than 30 minutes. Below are the steps to follow to properly install this cover on your truck.

Install the Side Rails

To install this tonneau cover, you will first need to install the side rails. The side rails help to hold the cover in position. When doing so, start with the driver’s side rails to make the installation process easy. Place the side rail on top of the bed rail and slide it all the way to the front until it hits the bulkhead. Hold the side rail on to the bed rail using a squeeze clamp.

Attach the Clamps

As you hold the side rail and the bed rail together, use the clamps provided to fully attach the side rail. Place the clamps on the front, mid and rear sections of the bed rail. You will need a 14mm socket or wrench to tighten the clamps. Repeat the process on the other side.

Install the Drain Tubes

After installing both the clamps and side rails, attach the drain tubes that will keep the cover dry. These tubes help drain water from the top of the cover when it rains or after washing the truck. Trucks come with pre-drilled holes that will make it easier to attach the drain tubes. If you have a bedrug installed, you will need to drill a hole through it before installing the tubes.

Install the Cover Itself

Place the folded cover on top of the rails, making sure the flap is on the front of the truck bed. Slide the cover to the front of the truck bed until the holes on the cover match the slots on the rail. Put the bolts in to hold the cover in position. Unfold the cover to align it with the truck bed. Close the tailgate to make sure the cover holds perfectly.

Tighten the Bolts

After installing the cover, tighten the bolts on the front part of the truck bed. Start by attaching the rubber washer, then the flat washer and lastly the lock washer. Use a plastic star nut to attach them all. Tighten the star nut just enough to where the bolt starts to pull in on the cover. Unfold the cover to check whether it is still aligned with the truck bed.
