What You Need to Know About ARB Air Locker

The ARB Air Locker is a replacement differential carrier that can either function as a conventional differential or lock both front and rear axle shafts together. This enables maximum drive torque to be transmitted to both truck wheels. Furthermore, you control the locking function as a driver. Front axles can be locked when giving maximum traction, traversing slippery surfaces, and then unlocked again for full steering capability. For safety feature, always lock the rear differential first before locking the front one.

The Benefits

With ARB Air Lockers, you have the benefits of an open differential. This Air Locker System is a locking differential system that utilizes a dash mounted electric switch that is used to activate a vacuum diaphragm that engages the locker. The air locker uses a small charge of air that comes from on board air compressor that further activates the locker. When activated, both axle shafts are locked together providing 100% equal traction to both wheels of that axle.

However, when the ARB Air Locker is not activated, then the ARB axle differential functions just like an open differential, offering a predictable but smooth handling characteristic that is ideal for daily driving. It is for the mentioned reason that ARB Air Locker has been known for introducing on–demand, user friendly and dual-purpose locker to the off-road enthusiasts. It is also easy and convenient to operate ARB Air locker system.

Flexibility

ARB Air Locker is only engaged when needed. Therefore, you can install it in both rear and front axle applications. Additionally, individual switches control the rear and front ARB Locker. The switches disengage or engage them independently. This gives you more flexibility as well as control during challenging off-road driving situations.

Installation

When you buy the ARB Air Locker system, i.e the ARB differential and ARB pump, the package comes with all the parts you need for installation including pneumatic fittings, wiring components and switches among others. The ARB Air Locker engages in a minute and can be fully engaged at any vehicle speed. However, the axle shafts should also be spinning at equal speeds and there should be no differential of speed between the axle’s wheels.
