Pro Comp Delivers Big at the King of the Hammers Race

In 1992, Pro Comp opened up their operations and went to work producing fierce, durable products for on and off road enthusiasts. Their long line of aftermarket products include: wheels, tires, suspensions, and shocks. Since their opening, these products have been pivotal in off-roading competitions, helping some of the most impressive teams in the world compete.

Last weekend, this tradition continued. Pro Comp sponsored driver Mike Johnson and his vicious aftermarket team in the Smittybilt Every Man Challenge at the world famous King of the Hammers event. Out of 38 competitors, Johnson finished second in an extremely competitive field. Within minutes after the race, ProComp was on the wire releasing a public statement; they bragged, “[Mike Johnson] ran on 37” Pro Comp Tires, and didn’t even have to use the spare! Congratulations!”

The fact that Pro Comp and Mike Johnson were on the podium at the King of the Hammers event cannot be underestimated. This event is very taxing and tests the legitimacy and durability of a company’s products. They do this by having the vehicles race through a 100+ mile course of sandy dunes, dry lake beds, and jagged rock canyons. Countless media outlets have named it as one of the ten toughest motor races in the world. Author Raphael Orlove says, “What happens when you put high speed desert running together with rock racing in the same event? You get the King of the Hammers. It’s about as difficult as off-road competition gets inside the United States.”

King of the Hammers

Since its inception in 2007, the King of the Hammers event has exploded in popularity. Originally, the event started as a non-spectator, invitational race that featured only 12 teams. Now, there are over 300 teams competing in total with 35,000 spectators watching live and in-person. On top of that, there’s another 500,000 watching online! It’s gotten so big that Johnson Valley, California (the host of the event) has been nicknamed “Hammertown” by fans and the media.

Of course, this is all made possible by the competitors and company sponsored teams. Recognizing the world class companies competing in the event, King of the Hammers founder, Dave Cole said, “We’ve partnered with the best manufacturers in off-road, and this class required parts that could handle the demands of off-road racing and the brutality of The Hammers.” With their second place finish this weekend, Pro Comp helped showcase why the King of the Hammers event is so great and why Pro Comp is one of the best aftermarket companies in the world.
