Nexen Tire Wins the 2014 International Design Excellence Awards

Nexen Tire has been in existence since 1942 and has been an industry leader for all that time. The company is known for its innovative tires such as the radial tires exclusively made from the company’s facility in Yangsan, Korea. The name Nexen is a combination of two words: Next and Century. This shows how dedicated the company is at manufacturing tires for the future.

Recently the company was awarded the winner of the International Design Excellence Awards Putting it on the same spot as some of the leading companies in the world.

Nexen Tire is not new to winning awards and this year has not been any different. The company was the winner at the 2014 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).winning the prestigious IDEA design award makes Nexen Tire the first tire manufacturer to win at all the four world design awards. Other design awards the company has won include IF Design Award in 2011, this was followed closely by the Red Dot Design Award in 2012 and last year (2013), the company won the G-Mark award.

The IDEA is the most prestigious design award any company can think of winning. This award is organized by the Design Society of America and is used to display originality, creativity and appealing visual aesthetics that will benefit the society is some way. The designs also have to impact the environment positively and should be implemented or realized effectively.

This year’s event saw the submission of over 2,000 entries from some of the top companies in the world making it one of the most competitive ones ever.

Nexen Tire presented the Green Hive project in the transportation category. The Green Hive is a concept tire design that focuses on sustainability, economy and usability among drivers. With this tire, the tire tread, that determines the life of the tire, can be replenished every so often. This makes the tire economical as there is no need to replace it every now and then.

The innovative and creative design of this tire earned praises from the judges who said this tire is truly a game changer. Receiving the award, Nexen Tire CEO Lee Hyun-bong said, "The grand slam of the most prestigious global design awards we have achieved with this year’s IDEA is proof of our design capability and extraordinary global competitiveness.” He went ahead to say the company will continue building quality and technologically advanced tires. “Going forward, we will continue to launch innovative products that deliver outstanding performance and design to raise our brand value,” he concluded.
