V-Twin Exhaust Review- Try Rush

If you’ve ever seen the old Coors Light commercial that had the song about America’s love for beer and TWINS, you probably understand the irrational obsession America has for twins. Well, this is paralleled in motorcycles and our irrational love for V-twin engines. Having a V-twin engine with an exhaust system that sounds like a symphony of roaring thunder is every motorcycle enthusiast's wet dream. The key to making your motorcycle sound great is adding a custom aftermarket exhaust.

The V-Twin Motorcycle

1909 HarleyThe 1909 Harley Davidson was the first Harley to feature a V-Twin Engine.
A V-twin engine is a two-cylinder internal combustion engine that appears in the shape of a V. On motorcycles, V-twin engines feature dual cylinders that connect at an angle that ranges from 0 degrees to 180 degrees. Some motorcycles, like Ducatis, use the name L-twin because their cylinders form the shape of an L, but these are essentially the same configuration. Prototypes for the V-twin motorcycle engines were originally shown at the Chicago Auto Show in 1907. These engines proved to give double the horse power as its single cylinder counterparts!

Today, with the advent of modern liquid cooled bikes, many people are saying that V-twin engines (which are air cooled) are null and void. However, we all know that this is not true. The classic, perfected sound of a V-twin engine cannot be replaced; not to mention V-twin engines are easier to work on and not as expensive to manufacture.

What to Expect from a V-Twin Exhaust

Many people incorrectly believe that an exhaust system should generate more engine power, but this is not exactly true. Actually, the main purpose of a performance enhancing exhaust is to reduce engine pumping losses and enhance the power that is already being created. Solid V-twin exhausts help to increase efficiency by reducing pumping losses, which can be done by utilizing spent combustion gases to increase all flow events that occur from the air intake to the exhaust discharge.

Because motorcycles are required to meet EPA standards, many bikes are “bottle necked”. This means that the natural flow that occurs is being restricted. If you want to enhance the sound and efficiency of your motorcycle, you need to upgrade your exhaust system.

Rush V-Twin Exhaust Systems

Rush-Exhaust.Rush offers a variety of exhaust systems that are aimed at satisfying any need.
Currently, Rush is one of the premiere manufacturers of after-market exhaust systems. Rush has exhaust systems that are designed for V-twin and touring/cruiser motorcycles. Their V-twin exhaust systems are designed to give a low price yet quality product that will enhance the sound and performance of your V-twin engine. One way that Rush does this is by coating their exhausts with a ceramic covering. This ceramic covering helps to cool down your exhaust by as much as 300 degrees and keep your V-twin running smoothly. In addition to this, Rush offers a number of exhaust accessories that will help the performance of your bike. Some of these include:

  • Rush Quiet Core Baffle Kits
  • Slip-On Mufflers
  • Head Pipe Heat Shields
