Samson Founder Rises to the Hall of Fame and the Top of the Motorcycle Industry

Kenny Price didn’t get into the motorcycle business just to make money like all of his competitors. He found himself at the head of Samson Exhaust, a multi-million dollar company, because of one thing: his love for motorcycles.

Humble Beginnings

Kenny Price’s motorcycle career started when he was a teenager and purchased a 1956 Vespa. Initially, he was dissatisfied with the power of the scooter, so he went to work on modifying its parts. This was the first learning experience for the man that would later be known as the greatest contributor to the advancement of motorcycle exhausts.

In 1969, Price bought the motorcycle that would change his life, a ’65 Harley Davidson Panhead. Price went to work on building modifications for the bike, especially for the exhausts, as soon as he purchased it. His friends around town were so astounded with how well his chopper looked and performed because of his alterations that he soon started making pipes for everyone around town. It was during this time that he was given the nickname “The Godfather of Pipes.”

A True Motorcycle Lover

During the 70s, Price bounced around and continued to work on motorcycles, but work wasn’t the most important thing for Price at the time. Motorcycles were. Price was notorious for calling in sick with “Motorcycle Fever,” telling his employer that he’d probably be better by tomorrow.

Also, Price started going on annual trips to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. The week long event is usually held during the first week in August and pulls together the biggest motorcycle enthusiasts from around the country. It was here that Kenny Price decided it was time to get heavily back into the motorcycle industry.

Rise to the Top

In the 80s, Price went to work and designed a series of motorcycle exhausts that forever changed the motorcycle industry. By 1988, Price had started Samson Exhausts, and for the past 25 years, Samson has grown into the most successful aftermarket motorcycle manufacturer. Their success is driven by a set of beliefs that puts quality at the forefront. According to their mission statement,

“From the very beginning we set out to build the very best motorcycle exhaust systems. We designed every aspect of our company to do just that, and we’ve succeeded. Our belief is simple. Our customers, when it’s all said and done, want a company that puts quality before quantity.”

Welcome to the Hall of Fame

In 2008, Kenny Price was inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame. During the ceremony, he became only the second person to ever receive the prestigious Founders Award, which recognizes men and women that have made significant contributions to the history of motorcycling. Yes, his exhausts are that good!

4 years after being inducted, Price was appointed to the board of directors of the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame. Because of this, he has also moved Samson Exhausts to Sturgis because his exhaust systems are and always have been the most important thing to him.
