K&N Filters a brief History. When it comes to air filters and cold air intakes there really is only one household name. Since the early 1960s, K&N Engineering has made air filters their business. Based out of Riverside, California, the company was formed when two friends, Ken Johnson and Norm Macdonald (K&N stands for Ken and Norm) saw a need for durable air filters with increased air flow.
