Justin Lofton Choosing General Grabber Tires Over NASCAR Slicks

In today’s racing world, there aren’t many racers that can “do it all.” When it comes down to it, every form of racing has its own style and knowledge that a driver needs to bring to the table. No matter what their skill level, a driver cannot just jump from one car (like a NASCAR truck on smooth pavement) and jump into another (such as a fully modified off-road dune buggy) and plan to be successful. However, that’s exactly what Justin Lofton has been doing this season.

At 28 years old, Lofton has already shown great promise; he has been winning NASCAR championships since he was 23 year olds.

Yet, some racers are just born to race in the dirt. Raised near farms in the Imperial Valley, Lofton started his racing career at age 9 at BMX tracks. Eventually, his bicycle career ended in 2002 when he broke his femur and had to undergo 11 surgeries.

Following his father’s footsteps as an off-road racer, Lofton started competing in hill climbs and Unlimited Chasses motor buggy races.

After winning Rookie of the Year in off-road racing, Lofton went looking for a new challenge and which was when he started to pursue his NASCAR career. He began racing late model stock cars, but the dirt kept calling him back. During the NASCAR season, Lofton was seen racing around the mountains at Pikes Peak. Then, less than two years later, he was seen at the Baja 1000 with his father where they raced together and won fourth place at the event -- impressive for a first timer in the desert.

From NASCAR To General Tires

While Lofton was 24 years and old and one of NASCAR’s premier racers, it became apparent that you couldn’t slow him down. In 2010 he started racing full time in the Camping World Truck Series where he earned right top-10s and four top-5s.

After his impressive first season as a fulltime NASCAR racer, with barely any practice time in the dirt, Lofton returned (again) to off-roading. Bouncing around at full speed in a highly modified truck with a set of General Tires Grabber Tires underneath his rig, he destroyed the competition in the Henderson 250, a desert race in the 1500 Buggy Class.

In 2013, Lufton became a full time member of the General Tires lineup. He joined J. Hutchins, Harley Letner, Ray Griffith and desert racer Jerry Whelchel for the off-road season and then returned again for the 2014 season, too.

“It’s great to be back with General Tire in 2014,” says Lofton.  “The durability and performance of the Grabber Tire is fantastic and I’m proud to represent them on and off the track. Anything is possible with General.”

Lofton’s Tire of Choice - General Tires

Since the 1930s, General Tires has been changing the tire industry. It started with the Balloon Jumbo, which only required 12 psi and then Dual Balloon, which was completely blowout proof. But now, the General Tires offers the Grabber for off-road racers and enthusiasts that are serious about “grabbing” as much traction as possible.

Whether he is racing 1,000 miles through the Baja desert or going back to his roots in a buggy hill climb, Justin Lofton always chooses General Tire’s Grabber. Even when his truck is burling across sand dunes at 100 mph, onlooker can tell what type of wheels are dominating the competition. The bright red lettering on the sidewall is unique to Grabber tires.

Aside from looking cool, the Grabbers feature some pretty unique traits; an aggressive treat design, 3-ply construction and race inspired sidewall help off-roaders in the most extreme terrain. Lufton is not the only racer that chooses the Grabber, either. Off-road legends Carl Renezeder and BJ Baldwin always use the tires with the red lettering, too. So, next time you’re itching for some top-quality tires, maybe you should consider trying out a set of Grabbers. It might just be what keeps bringing racers like Lufton back into the dirt.
