How Continental Tires Constructs its SUV/4x4 Tires for Lasting Performance

Continental Tires is a company with a long history of tire manufacturing prowess. The company began in Hanover in 1871 making tires for carriages and bicycles. The future of automobile was in Continental’s favor as more improved vehicles emerged in the course of time and naturally the firm had to adjust and satisfy the demand for good tires. By 1998 Continental Tires had expanded its reach worldwide and acquired a large brake and chassis manufacturing unit in the U.S . Its tire categories are split into the motor vehicle types they serve. We therefore have Continental car tires, van tires, SSR tires, CTS and SUV/4x4. The latter will be our topic of interest as we explore how Continental tires makes tires that can go for miles without losing efficiency and still last for years.

Innovative Tread Designs

Continental SUV/4X4 tires are made in variety of advanced innovative tread designs. As would be expected they are all made to produce even tread wear and therefore maintain the stability of the vehicle even after years of use. For instance, the Conti4X4Contact tire does away with the traditional mid rib tread block and instead uses a series of counterbalance tread blocks which can equally improve stability and traction. This technology is intended to resist aquaplaning effects when driving in wet conditions.

All tread blocks are siped to produce this resistance and to also create better traction that can manage both easy highway driving and off road terrains. Other tires possess an assymetrical tread design which performs the same hydroplaning function but in addition to this, they center the wheel action towards the center and generate higher performance while cutting down noise.

Another way in which Continental tires make the best out of their tire manufacturing experience is by incorporating the use of superior construction compounds. The Conti4X4SportsContact for example is tire that is built from silica compound. The greatest advantage of using silica compound is that it offers maximum resistance against object and as a result brakes very easily. It also produces wonderful traction against the road hence making it an ideal high performance tire.

It’s All in the Shoulders

Lastly, Continental tires are built deliberating with rigid shoulder block profiles and tough sidewalls to produce unmatched cornering ability and to prevent damage from side impacts. The ContiTrac for instance has a wide shoulder area that produces a good structural base for added stability when driving in off road zones. In addition to his the shoulder blocks on series like the Continental UHP Cross Contact are siped to make cornering in slippery situation even easier.

Sizes for All Rims

Continental tires are made in a variety of sizes that range from 15 to 23 inches. The Continetal UHP Cross Contact has the largest size range including all size ratings lying between 16 and 23 inches.
