Continental Tires Racers Record Their First Win Of 2014

Terry Borcheller and Mike LaMarra recorded their first major win of 2014 during the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge held in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. In their No. 23 Automotive Chemicals BMW Group BMW 128i, Borcheller crossed the finish line 1.313 seconds ahead of the No. 42 Team Sahlen Porsche Cayman by Will and Wayne Nonnamaker. Will and Wayne Nonnamaker were also running on Continental tires. They were all participating in the Street Tuner class.

After the race, Borcheller was happy with the car and the tires overall saying that the handling was the best one he has had so far. He also added, “The Continental tires stayed extremely consistent through the entire run, we stayed quick. From the first to the last lap and that’s a big part of the work. We’ve had some bad luck just the way the races have gone. It just came together for us today.”

Borcheller said this win was particularly important for them having struggled all year long. He added that the win was a result of good practice and hitting the car hard during the race.

Will Nonnamaker Comes In Second

Will Nonnamaker on his part said the race was challenging for them but they managed to stay on course to finish second. Even with the huge wreck that happened before the end on the first lap, they still managed to make it through. This huge wreck was a result of a multi-car accident pile up that took out several top participants including the leading contender in the No. 56 Murillo Racing Porsche Cayman, Jeff Mosing. He settled for position 14 in the end.

Nonnamaker had this to say, “We drove a good three or four laps over all that rubble and we never got a flat with our Continental tires. Wayne drove most of the race, part of our strategy, worked out really well. At the end we brought it home for second and the points lead so that’s great for Team Sahlen.” This win moved Team Sahlen into the ST point’s lead putting them in a good place for the rest of the season. This was also the team’s fourth second place finish this year.

Leh Keen Finishes Second

Another driver using Continental tires in Elkhart Lake was Leh Keen. He attributed his late jump into the second place position to his Continentals. He said, “In the middle of my first run I felt the car losing grip, so I came in and the guys put a new set of Continentals on the car and got me out in third place.” After the first stop, the car was very stable and this helped his move and stay in second place.
