About the Jeep CJ5
The Jeep CJ5 was introduced in 1954. It was produced all the way through 1983, making it the longest continually manufactured Jeep line. Like the CJ-3 before it, the CJ5 stayed in production even though three newer Jeep models were introduced. Over three decades, a total of 603,303 CJ-5s were driven off the manufacturing assembly line.
The CJ5 marked a breakthrough in the appearance of the “Civilian Jeeps.” Its body was based on the Korean War’s Military M38A1 (1952-1957) model, but modified and stylized for civilian use. It took advantage of developing manufacturing technologies, including being the first Jeep with rounded front fenders -- quite a revolutionary style in the 50s.
The CJ5 became an unprecedented four-wheel drive icon for a particular brand and model classification. Even though they are all many decades old now, there are plenty of proud CJ5 owners taking driving their beloved little unstoppable beasts on the road and in the outback!
