Installing the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Hitch

Installing the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Hitch

The Blue Ox SwayPro weight distribution hitch is built to hold the trailer in line. This weight distribution hitch uses the tension and geometry of the 4-point system to hold the trailer in place. To prevent the sway from starting, this hitch is uniquely designed with an intelligent pitch angle that is built to work with the latch attachments and spring steel bars. Below is a step-by-step guide to the installation of this hitch.

Preparation Before the Installation Process

Before you install this weight distribution hitch, make sure you disable or deflate the air springs, air-ride shock absorbers and the automatic leveling systems of the trailer. Park the towing vehicle and trailer in a straight line on a firm level ground. After the trailer is leveled, measure the coupler height. Insert the hitch mount receiver into the towing vehicle receiver. Secure this with the pin clip provided.

Install the Ball to the Hitch Head Assembly

This ball is not provided. Install the appropriate ball to match the coupler. Use either a standard 1 ¼ inch or 1 inch shank non-rise ball. The hitch ball capacity must meet or exceed the gross trailer weight rating. Using the nuts, bolts and washers provided, install the hitch head assembly to the receiver hitch mount. You may later need to move the hitch head assembly up or down on the hitch mount receiver to raise or lower the coupler height.

Attach the Trailer to the Hitch Head

This is done by placing the trailer coupler on to the hitch ball. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when doing this. Mount the rotating latches to the center of the trailer frame. Remove any obstructions on the trailer framework and tighten the bolts on the rotating latch. Insert the spring bar assembly into the hitch head pivots until the manual release points snap close and lock the bars into place. Make sure the rotating latches are in proper position.

Rotate and pull out the lock pin handle to release the rotating latch. Use the wrench provided to rotate the bracket clockwise until the chain slot is on the lower part. Using a desired chain link, insert the chain into the slot on the latch. Rotate the latch counter clockwise till the lock pin engages the pinhole.

Adjust the chain links if necessary to level the towing vehicle. At the same time, try to level the trailer if it is not yet leveled. Making sure the towing vehicle and the trailer are leveled marks the end of the installation process. Blue Ox advises you get a trained professional to help with the installation process to prevent against damages or any serious injuries.
