The deflators are supplied at a preset pressure, however you
can adjust this pressure to your desired level. It is not necessary
to reset them again unless you wish to change the psi that you
want to reduce your tyre pressure to.
Exactly how much you reduce your tyre pressure depends
on a variety of factors, such as how much weight your tyres
are supporting. Additionally the softness of the surface that
you are travelling through will also affect how much you need
to let your tyres down. Through trial and error you can find
your personal preference and determine what tyre pressure suits
you.
Staun Tyre Deflators do not have a minimum start
off pressure so you do not need to bring your tyre pressure
back up in order to reduce it further. Simply turn the adjusting
cap anti-clockwise to further reduce your tyre pressure. If
they do not start automatically you can manually start them
by lifting the pin. Please check your product header card for
individual pressure settings.
The Staun Tyre Deflators need to be screwed on from
the finger grip located at the base of the valve. Do not use
the adjusting cap or lock ring to fix the deflator to the valve

This deflator has been designed for those who require lower pressure ranges with extreme accuracy. Suitable for competitive Rock Crawlers & Dune Buggies who deflate to as low as 4 - 5 psi with bead locks.
This model comes preset at 7 psi and has an adjustment of 2 psi per half turn and 4 psi per full turn of the adjustment cap. It also only requires 2 psi above its preset pressure to start automatically, but can be manually started by lifting the pin as little as 1 psi above the preset pressure.
This deflator has been designed to suit most 4WD deflation needs. Suitable for beach or bush pressures it comes preset at 18psi and is accurate to within 0.25psi.
It has an adjustment of 3psi per half turn and 6psi per full turn of the adjustment cap. Requiring 7 psi above its preset pressure to start automatically, they can be started manually by lifting the pin at as little as 2 psi above its preset pressure.
This deflator is designed to deflate to and from higher pressures. It is also accurate to within 0.25psi. Designed for use in the light to heavy trucking industry, it is also suitable for agricultural and farming equipment.
This model comes preset at 35psi and has an adjustment of 4psi per half turn and 8psi per full turn of the adjustment cap. It requires 8psi above its preset pressure to start automatically or can be manually started by lifting the pin at as little as 2 psi above its preset pressure.

While your 4WD tyres are deflated to your preferred pressure, the trailer would normally deflate to different pressures based on the weight of the trailer/van.

A common question about tyre deflators is "Can I leave them on while I am driving?"And the answer is "Yes you can, BUT only if you want to take certain risks." The biggest danger of driving with deflators still attached to the valve stem is that the tyre could deflate fully. This can cause the tyre to come away from the rim, which can result in an accident occurring with potential fatalities.
Another reason to remove deflators before driving off road is the potential for the valve stem to snap. Once a deflator is screwed onto the valve stem it becomes an extension of that stem.
Therefore, if you were to knock the deflator with any obstacle, you could snap the valve stem at the rim causing instant deflation.The other major risk is that debris, such as sand or muddy water, can pollute the chamber and prevent the deflator from sealing.
These are the logical reasons why Staun Products
does not recommend that you drive with any deflator left
on your vehicle.

AUTOMATIC TIRE DEFLATORS
Automatic tire deflators are popping up all around the world. They vary in size and shape, and some look virtually identical to our Staunies. My objective was to see how they worked. And since I was not in on the design, I could not say what the other manufacturers' design objectives were, or if they were working properly, all I could do was report how they worked for me in the situations below. The videos present that information.
However, I can tell you what the Staun automatic tire deflator design objectives were. We wanted a valve that decisively turned on, decisively shut off, and did not leak after shut off. We wanted a deflator that was easy to adjust without tools, and was repeatable and reliable.
I first put all of the deflators on our standard trade show tire deflator demonstration fixture. I'd inflate the simulated tire to 30-something psi, screw a deflator on the standard valve stem just as I would a tire, observe and listen to how it started and shut off.
All deflators were adjusted to 15 �2 psi. Some of the valves were hard to adjust because they did not have distinctive turn on or turn off qualities. Since I had a microphone near the valve stem, I also tried looking at the audio waveform to determine if I could see a distinct change in waveform amplitude. On some, this helped and on others it was of no help.

Knowing that my ears, and maybe even the microphone could miss the sound of residual air flow after shut off, I ran each valve underwater. Water reveals the slightest trace of residual air flow. The fixture is simply a two-port manifold, underwater, with gauges and valves to measure and control the process. I had a video camera and microphone to observe the whole thing with lasers to help disclose even the slightest trace of bubbles. I chose to run each valve along side a Staunie to ensure the skeptical that there were no tricks.

Using water idea is not new. When I first evaluated the Staunies for my newsletter in 2001, before I went to work for Staun, I did the same thing. And for the skeptical, I have personally had the occasion to lower my tire pressure in a stream after finding the stream bed traction gave out, so using the deflators underwater is not that far fetched.by Harry Lewellyn
