In the automobile industry there are two distinct camps: the original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket specialists. The former includes the Detroit ‘Big Three’ (Ford, GM and Chrysler) and Japanese trio (Toyota, Nissan, Honda), the latter consists of thousands of small manufacturing companies in the US, Asia and Europe.

The OEMs tend to be large companies with hundreds of employees and thousands (or millions) of worldwide consumers, aftermarket firms are usually smaller operations with a handful of dedicated employees and a discerning but far smaller consumer-base.

But there is one aftermarket specialist who has bridged this gap and is both aftermarket and full-blown OEM; Warn.

Warn’s Aftermarket Beginnings to OEM

Warn was founded in 1948 by Arthur and Sadie Warn, producing locking wheel hubs that helped convert thousands of ex-WW2 army surplus Jeeps into civilian vehicles. By 1954 the revolutionary hubs were being offered as factory options by several automobile manufacturers. Aftermarket status established.

In 1959 Warn developed its first winch – the Warn name has since become synonymous with winches – which was immediately picked up by off-roaders, weekend warriors and working ranchers. Aftermarket status confirmed.

During the 1970s Ford began a relationship with Warn that continues to this day. The Detroit giant asked Warn to produce hub sets for its pickups and Broncos and suddenly Warn was a worldwide manufacturer and distributor. Transition from aftermarket supplier to OEM completed.

Warn winches – tried and
trusted since 1959

Warn was one of the first companies to recognize the significance of the emerging powersports market in the 1990s and quickly developed relationships with Yamaha and Bombardier. As well as its winches, Warn developed a full range of performance enhancing equipment for 4x4 and ATV/UTV owners.

Warn’s catalog includes bumpers, lighting, snow plow kits, protection, accessories and of course winches for Jeeps, 4x4s, trucks, ATV/UTVs and motorcycles. It has become a globally recognized brand and the Warn name is as closely associated with winches as the Coca-Cola name is with carbonated beverages.

For 65 years consumers have chosen Warn products for the rugged durability and dependable reliability they offer. Warn was the first name in off-road equipment and for thousands of people Warn is the last name too.
