Q. What is AGC?

A. The AGC is audio technology that will automatically adjust the headset's volume according to ambient noise and driving speed.

Q. Which audio sources are affected by AGC volume adjustment?

A. Audio from the AUX MP3 Jack, Mobile Phones, GPS devices, and Intercom connections will benefit from AGC.

Q. What is VOX?

A. When using VOX mode, your voice activates the Intercom communication and answers incoming phone calls without having to press any buttons.

Q. What is Full Duplex?

A. Full Duplex audio allows communication in both directions, and, unlike half-duplex, allows this to happen simultaneously.

Q. Does the Flip-up Antenna affect the embedded the FM radio?

A. No. The sole purpose of the Flip-up antenna is to increase intercom range between bikers. There is no need to open it when using your mobile phone, FM Radio or MP3 Player but you can do so without concern.

Q. How do I reset a G4 after the headset turns itself off?

A. If your headset fails to respond despite repeated attempts, you can reset your headset by charging it. After approximately 10 seconds, remove the headset from the charger and turn it on again. Your headset should now respond as expected.

Q. How do I remove older Glue Pad Back Plate to install new G4 Back Plate?

A. When removing the glue pad back plate from the previous Scala Rider versions to a new Scala Rider G4 version, please do as follows: Locate the helmet with the previous Glue Pad Back Plate. Peel back the Glue Pad Back Plate as gently as you can, to REMOVE the Glue Pad. Peel off the glue that is on the helmet. No need to use any tool, the glue easily peels off by hand. Determine the new location for the back plate by positioning the microphone in the center of your mouth. Take the alcohol pad and wipe the area where the Glue Pad Back Plate attached previously as well as the area where the new back plate will be attached. Wait for 15 seconds until the alcohol evaporates. The helmet is clean and ready for the new glue pad back plate. The adhesive pad bonds to full strentgth over the next 24 hours. It is not recommended to use the headset or hemet during this 24 hour period.

Q. Which Audio sources receive stereo sound?

A. The FM radio and devices connected via the AUX MP3 Jack will broadcast in stereo. The Bluetooth connection will broadcast stereo audio if the device connecting to the G4 is A2DP compatible and broadcasting A2DP/stereo audio, such as music. Phone calls are not transmitted in stereo.

A. Q. How many Bluetooth devices can I have paired (not headsets/Intercoms)?

A. You can only have one Bluetooth device paired and connected at one time (not including headset/Intercom Connections).

Q. How can I use the Intercom while using the AUX MP3 Jack connection?

A. You must manually activate the intercom by selecting the desired A or B channel when using the AUX MP3 Jack connection.

Q. What size is the MP3 Cable?

A. The audio cable supplied with the Scala Rider G4 will have two 3.5mm tips and is approximately 2 feet coiled or 8 feet when fully stretched.

Q. Where is the AUX MP3 Jack located?

A. The AUX MP3 Jack is located to the back side of the audio kit, left of the back plate and below the base of the antenna.

Q. How do I get a new MP3 Audio Cable?

A. You can purchase a new MP3 audio cable by visiting the Cardo Systems website at http://www.cardosystems.com, selecting your location, and accessing the online store by clicking 'Where to Buy' followed by Cardo Online Store.

A. Q. How do I check the battery status?

A. To check the battery status level turn on the headset and then press and hold the Volume Up Button for three seconds. The Blue light indicates the battery is fully charged Red/blue light indicates the battery is half-full and a Red light indicates the battery is almost empty. Please wait 1 minute after turning on the headset before checking the battery status.

Q. What are the intercom distance limitations of the G4?

A. The Intercom distance of a Scala Rider G4 is limited to the device connected for intercom communication. When connected to separate G4 the intercom distance is 1 mile, a Q2 distance is 1,640 feet and the Solo, FM and Teamset Driver's units distance is limited between driver and pillion only.

Q. When should I have the antenna raised?

A. The antenna should be raised when using the intercom.

Q. How long does it take to fully charge the G4?

A. The initial charge will take approximately 4 hours, and each additional full charge will take approximately 3 hours.

Q. How long does a full charge last?

A. A full charge will provide up to 10 hours of talk-time or about 1 week stand-by time (when fully charging from any regular outlet).

Q. What is the audio priority order?

A. The priority of the devices connected to the Scala Rider G4 are as such (1 being the highest and 5 the lowest priority) 1. Mobile phone audio or GPS instructions (device specific) 2. Intercom 3. A2DP audio source 4. FM radio (built-in) 5. Auxiliary MP3 Port (for corded connection e.g. MP3 players). For example, incoming mobile phone calls will interrupt ongoing intercom calls, while incoming intercom calls will interrupt the audio from the built-in FM Radio etc.

Q. Does the Microphone work with devices connected via the AUX MP3 Jack?

A. No, devices connected through the AUX MP3 Jack connection cannot receive audio from the microphone. This Jack is only used for audio input.

Q. Can the Fast-Forward and Rewind buttons work with devices connected via the AUX MP3 Jack?

A. No, the Fast-Forward and Rewind buttons are only used with compatible AVRCP devices and will not apply to a device connected via the AUX MP3 Jack

Q. Are older versions of Scala Rider Headsets compatible with the intercom connection?

A. The Scala Rider G4 is compatible with all Scala Rider headsets for intercom communication except the Passenger unit of the Scala Rider TeamSet. When connected to a separate G4, the intercom range is 1 mile; with a Q2, the range is 1,640 feet; with the Solo, FM and Teamset Driver's units, the range is limited between driver and pillion only.

Q. Can I voice activate an incoming phone call when the VOX is disabled?

A. Yes, you will be able to voice activate an incoming phone call when VOX is disabled.

Then press and hold the Volume Up Button for three seconds. Next, the Red and Blue Lights will flash five times simultaneously and then the headset will turn off, confirming that the Reset was successfully completed.

Q. How do I receive a corded boom with my purchase for use with a full face helmet?

A. In the US, the G4 will be sold only in the version with the XL Boom Microphone. Internationally, we will have the G4 in two versions: XL Boom Microphone and Corded Microphone. Also, it will be possible to purchase the audio kit of the G4 separately.

Q. How do I get the Cardo Upgrades Software to update the G4?

A. You can download it from Cardo System's website once you register. Please visit http://www.cardosystems.com, select your location, and click 'Download' followed by 'Software Updates'.

Q. How do I register the G4 headset?

A. The G4 headset can be registered by visiting http://www.cardosystems.com, selecting your location, and clicking 'Support' followed by 'Registration'.

Q. Can I add my own earbud speakers to the Audio Kit?

A. No. Currently we only have one style of speakers with all scala rider headsets and any changes made to the device will void your warranty.

Q. With 2 intercom partners paired, can I use VOX to connect to only one of them for Intercom communication?

A. No. VOX will open communications with all headsets with both intercom partners. If you want to disconnect one of the two intercom partners, tap the A or B button to disconnect that rider from the conversation.
