The Different Types of ATV Luggage

The Different Types of ATV Luggage

ATV luggage come in many shapes and sizes and are divided into fuel tank boxes, front- or rear-mounted luggage boxes and the vehicle mounted racks with strapping arrangements. Installing a rack or luggage carrier on the ATV is very helpful as it increases carrying capacity and usefulness of the ATV. The different types of ATV luggage we will discuss include drop or rear flat racks, nylon front and rear bags, luggage boxes and fuel tank boxes.

Rear Flat Racks

These may not be seen as a form of luggage by most people but they still provide you with additional space to carry extra cargo. These racks are sturdy load carrying systems that may be used with both soft and hard body cases. These racks are more adaptable when compared to standard luggage boxes as the amount of cargo they carry is not limited by the size of the rack. The only downside with these racks is that the item being carried is exposed to weather elements that may end up damaging it.

Most of these racks come with a raised perimeter that prevents the item being carried from falling off.

Drop Racks

These resemble the rear flat racks with the only difference being a rear tailgate that can be lowered independently and the deeper storage area. This is helpful for those who want to carry heavy items on their ATVs. The rear tailgate adds functionality as it can also be used to carrying items that would otherwise not fit on the rack itself.

Luggage Boxes

These are larger and have a hard shell for ultimate protection of your cargo. These boxes are fixed on the ATV and will not move around as the ATV moves. This makes them perfect for those carrying delicate items. Since these boxes can be closed tightly, they help protect the cargo from inclement weather and mud that is very common in off road terrains.

Fuel Tank Boxes

These accessories are perfect for carrying perishable products such as food items, smaller items and tool kits. These boxes are not perfect for those who will want to access their items regularly as when installed, they are not that close to the rider.

Nylon Rear and Front Bags

These do not stand alone and they are to be used with installed rack systems. They are easy to use and provide the same level of protection as the hard-shell luggage boxes. They are designed for those who do not want the cumbersome presence created by the hard-shell luggage boxes.
